June 18-21, 2008
National 4-H Conference Center
Chevy Chase, Maryland
When should I arrive?
You should arrive between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. The conference starts at approximately 5 p.m. at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
What time does the conference end?
We recommend flights depart between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, and the airport shuttles will run during those hours.
To which airport do I fly?
You should fly to Ronald Reagan National Airport because it is the most convenient to the National 4-H Center, but we will also pick up students at Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
How will students get to and from the airport and the conference?
Students will be picked up by a Young America’s Foundation staff member (with a sign) at the baggage claim and will be taken in a shuttle bus to the 4-H Center. The specific times of these shuttles will be determined once students submit their travel information about two weeks before the conference.
Will there be supervision during the weekend?
Yes, students will be supervised by at least eight staff members who will chaperone the students for the whole weekend. Students are expected to behave appropriately or will be asked to leave the conference at their own expense. The 4-H Center enforces a curfew each evening. Parents will be sent a waiver form when the conference approaches.
What if I take the bus or the train?
We will also pick up students from Union Station in Washington, D.C. Please arrive and depart during the above listed times.
What are the activities during the conference?
Thursday and Friday will feature speakers and question and answer sessions, and the conference concludes with a tour of Washington, D.C. and its monuments at night.
What if I have other questions?
You will receive information in the mail when the conference gets closer about what to wear, what to expect, what is on the schedule, and your travel information. This packet will also contain parental waiver forms to return prior to your participation. Please feel free to call Roger Custer at 800-USA-1776 or email him if you have any specific questions.
What are the living arrangements?
Students will have one or more roommates of the same sex for the weekend. The registration form contains a blank in which you can request a roommate, and we will do our best to accommodate those requests. Linens are provided.
How many students are expected for the conference?
100 students are expected to attend the conference.
Is there a registration deadline?
No, but we encourage you to apply early, since a waiting list will start once the places are filled.
Are scholarships available?
Yes – a limited number of scholarships are available for students with demonstrable financial need. If interested and qualified, please send a one page essay to Roger Custer, fax it to 703-318-9122, or mail to:
